Davis Hodgson Named Manager of the Nicaraguan Baseball Team
The Executive Committee of the Nicaraguan Federation of Associated Baseball, in meeting with the national technicians, named Davis Hodgson manager of the National team selected to compete in the World Cup of Baseball in Europe.
After meeting with the members of the Nicaraguan Commission of Baseball, the executives of FENIBA and the technicians selected Mr. Hodgson. Hodgson was later presented to the players, who were affable with Hodgson from the get go.
The new President of FENIBA, Police Commissioner Adolph Marenco, accompanied by the Vice-president, Nemesio Porras, secretary Agustín Orozco, public prosecutor Edgard Matamoros, went to the players urging them to prepare suitably for this event, where both the Government and the board would do anything necessary to assure a competitive, proud participation in the tournament, with a positive ending result.
Nicaragua will participate in Croatia for the opening round beginning on the 10 of September. It will be Hodgson’s debut as Nicaragua’s World Cup coach. Davis made his managerial start as the coach of the Selection in VIII the Intercontinental Cup of Baseball in 1987 in Santiago of Cuba, where he lead his squad to a record of 2 wins and 6 losses.
In 1989, he coached in the fifth annual “Jose Antonio Huelga” games in Cuba, which was the qualifying for the World Cup Championship of Edmonton the following year. There, he led his team to a 5 and 1 record. Most recently, in 1990 in IV the Central American Games that took place in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, he lead his team to a 4 and 2 record, finishing second only behind El Salvador. Hodgson becomes the country’s 17th manager.
